GRAND PRIX ACF DE TOURS 1923
Four Bugatti T32 were specially designed and built for the 1923 Tours Grand Prix, which took place one month after the first edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The very enveloping body is remarkable for its avant-garde style, as is the new Voisin (a car manufacturer that won the 1922 Tourisme GP of Strasbourg).
But neither Bugatti nor Voisin are favourites of this long-planned event, which attracts crowds to the valley of the kings of France, even though it takes place on a Monday.
Out of the 4 Bugatti cars entered, the Prince de Cystria’s Bugatti #16 has a good start and is doing well even if it is not at the front. On the 12th lap, at the curve of the Membrolle, Lee Guiness’ Sunbeam #2 saw it miss its turn and run aground in the sand and retire.
